ANGELA ANGIE MARY MCGILLICK
Angela Angie Mary McGillick, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Mines) Courtney was born on January 26, 1931 at the family farm near Yankton, S.D. She attended Fishbeck Country School near Yankton and graduated from Mount Marty High School in Yankton. On August 7, 1951, she was united in marriage to Patrick Edwin McGillick at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. After their marriage the couple farmed near Irene, S.D. until 1959 when they moved to Sheldon, Iowa. In 1961 they moved to Pocahontas, Iowa, where together they operated a Culligan Soft Water business. In 1968 they returned to Sheldon to take over the International Harvester Implement dealership (McGillick Inc.). During this time, Angie fulfilled the important role of a stay-at-home mom but also served as a key confidant and advisor for Pat. She later assisted him with custom combining and baling, seed corn sales and Ryder Truck rentals. Pat preceded Angie in death on June 17, 2010. Angie remained at home until moving to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in April, 2016. She passed away Wednesday, May 17, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center, having reached the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 21 days.
Angie was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, the Church Guild, Catholic Daughters of America, Legion of Mary, Red Hat Society, Merry-Go-Round Club and was a dedicated prayer partner. She faithfully prayed the rosary and enjoyed making rosaries (totaling over 10,000), gardening, cooking, baking, and cutting out canceled postage stamps for charitable organizations.
Angie leaves her seven children and their spouses to treasure her memory; Margaret Peg (Rollie) Noem of Hill City, SD, Colleen (Douglas) Perry of Sheldon, Katherine Kate (Dale) Ryen of Worthington, MN, Mary (Jon) Vaske of Sioux Falls, SD, Edwin Ed (Carolina) McGillick of Keller, TX, Ann (Mike) Young of Boone, IA, and Marie (Todd) Kruger of Sheldon.
Cherishing her memory are 23 grandchildren; Josh (Stacey) Noem, Molly (Neil) Fulton, Emily (Jesse) Herrera, Matthew Perry, Jill (John) Hall, Kelly (Matthew) Buyske, Todd (Kellie) Perry, Justin Ryen, Paul Ryen, Steven Ryen (special friend, Brianna McDonough), Brandon (Sarah) Nelson, Ashlee (Jose) Rivera, Rylee (Jessica) Nelson, Courtney Nelson (fianc, Steven Kranz), Patrick McGillick, Julia McGillick, Jacob Young, Katie (Jake) Gionet, Meghan (Nick) Ryan, Ryan Young, Kurt Kruger, Kori Kruger (fianc, Cody Ter Meer), and Kaci Kruger. She also lived to experience the wonderful joy of seeing 29 great-grandchildren brought into this world.
She also leaves behind two sisters; Marge Lubbers of Missoula, MT and Sister Kathleen Courtney, OSB, of Yankton; one sister-in-law, Janet Courtney of Yankton; and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; two infant grandchildren, Gregory Perry and Bridget Young; her parents; her sisters, Mary Henning and Patty Courtney (in infancy); a brother, Clarence Courtney; and brothers-in-law, Don Henning and Jerry Lubbers.
Angie will be laid to rest with her husband in St. Columba Catholic Cemetery near Mayfield, S.D. May her soul rest forever in the glory of heaven.
