ARNOLD J. PENNINGS
Arnold John Pennings was the first-born child of Mr. John Henry Pennings and Mrs. Anna Henrietta (DeWeerd) Pennings. He resided in Orange City, Iowa during his early childhood. He received Special Education Services from the Sheldon and Sioux Center Schools and later from the Glenwood State Hospital and School.
He moved to the Village Northwest Unlimited (VNU) in July 1976 where he served a term as the Village Mayor. He continued to receive VNU services while living in East Oak Apartments and in his own home in Sheldon. In 2006 he moved to the Alternative Living Center on the VNU campus where he lived until 2015, when he moved to the Sanford Senior Care Center due to increasing health needs.
Arnold enjoyed being employed at the Northwest Iowa Vocational Center where he worked at a variety of tasks. He cherished his connections with his church family at the Parkview Assembly Church in Sheldon. He was the valued tail twister at the Sheldon Lions Club for many years. He took immense pride in being the uncle of 3 nephews (James and Sharad Tandon and Peter Vermeer) and 2 grandnephews (Shannon Tandon and Jack Vermeer).
Arnold taught others about being resilient and finding a way through new challenges. He developed his potential because of his deep spiritual faith and optimism, a loving support system, and the professional services he received. His many friends and his family will miss his sunny disposition and sense of humor.
Family members left to remember Arnold are his sisters and their spouses: Mr. and Mrs. (Audrey) Shyama Tandon and Mr. and Mrs. (Beverly) Philip Vermeer.
