Bonnie Horstmann, 95, of Hartley, formerly of Sutherland passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Community Memorial Health in Hartley. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet with Pastor Jamie Negus, officiating.

Burial will be at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland.
Visitation with family present will be from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.

Bonnie Horstmann
Bonnie Horstmann, the daughter of Andrew and Ruby (Taylor) Peterson, was born on the family farm on December 6, 1930. She received her education and graduated from Ruthven High School and continued her education in Fort Dodge, Ia at Beauty School. On August 12, 1959, she was united in marriage to Elden Horstmann in Ruthven, Ia. After their marriage, the couple made their home on the Horstmann family farm west of Sutherland, where Bonnie helped Elden work the land and raise 8 children. Bonnie passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2026, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 12 days.
Bonnie worked various jobs throughout her life. She was a hairdresser, a telephone operator, and she rode the train from Ruthven to Spencer to work at a fishing tackle business tying eyes on fishing poles. She worked at Mary O's in Primghar, Ia and also worked for home health.
Bonnie was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet where she was a Sunday school teacher and belonged to the Women's Fellowship, plus held other jobs in the church. She was a Blue Bird leader for Girl Scouts and helped make Braille books of the Bible. She enjoyed ceramics, baking, dancing, bowling, birthday club and having coffee with friends. Most of all she enjoyed family vacations and being together with her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her 8 children, Lynn (Marilynn) Horstmann, Marlene (Dana) Click, Dan (Barb) Horstmann, Cindy (Ron) Wollenburg, Georgette (Jeff) Ebel, Jean (Rich) Rausch, Jan Horstmann (Robin), and Delaine (Scott) Haack. 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A sister Karen (Phil) Frisbie and many relatives and friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elden, 1 granddaughter, Hannah Rose Ebel, and her brothers-Jerald (Phyllis), Donald, Robert, and John Peterson.
