Family services will be held for Bruce C. Roelfs, age 74, of Sheldon who passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at his home in Sheldon.  

Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon with Pastor Mark Ellens ~ officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

BRUCE C. ROELFS

     Bruce Curtis Roelfs the son of John H. and Hilda (Van Kley) Roelfs was born November 24, 1948 in Sibley, Iowa. He received his education in Ashton and Sheldon, Iowa. Bruce served in the Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict reaching the grade of Staff Sergeant. On March 14, 1969 he was united in marriage to Gayle Den Hartog at the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Upon his discharge from the service the couple farmed until ill health forced his retirement. Bruce also served the Sheldon Community School District as transportation director for 16 years until his retirement in 2018. He passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at his home in Sheldon reaching the age of 74 years, five months and twenty-six days.

     He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sanborn.

     Bruce is survived by his wife of over 54 years Gayle Roelfs of Sheldon, Iowa; their children, Kristine Roelfs and Dan Willers of Huxley, Iowa; David (Joy) Roelfs of Louisville, Kentucky; Nathaniel Roelfs (Sara Rieger) of Marion, Iowa and Nadine Roelfs of Huxley, Iowa; grandchildren, William Roelfs and Owen Roelfs of Marion, Iowa; step grandchildren, Sadie Crandall; Ezra Crandall; Jude Crandall; Violet Crandall; Mona Crandall all of Marion, Iowa; one brother, Marlin Roelfs of Ashton, Iowa also other relatives and many friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hilda Roelfs and his canine friend, Zuka.
