Carol Winter was born November 23, 1940, in Los Angeles, California. She moved to Sheldon when she was 7 years old and graduated from Sheldon High School. She worked at the Boyden egg factory after she graduated. She met Ernest Winter and married on November 30, 1961. They made their home on a farm near Boyden. She was a homemaker and they raised three daughters. After her daughters graduated, she worked for Service Master and then part-time at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull. She retired and got involved with Red Hats Society. She enjoyed the outings they took and the many ladies she socialized with. Ernest preceded her in death on August 9, 2017. She moved to Fieldcrest in July of 2023. Carol passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 8 days.

Carol was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Boyden all her married years. She truly enjoyed working on puzzles and visiting with the other residents. Her favorite past time was cooking, baking, gardening, and sewing. She made all her girls’ clothes and also made quilts. She was involved in Dorcus and Alter Guild. She made quilts for Lutheran World Relief and Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp. Her children and grandchildren are her pride and joy! Family time was very important to her and she treasured every moment.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Jeanette (Rich) Meyer of Harris, Iowa, Brenda Winter of LeMars, Iowa and Bev (Jack) Rolfes of Orange City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Wade (Karen), Lindsey (Adam), Chad, Alyssa, Nicole and Austin (Madison); one soon to be great grandson; nieces and nephews, Janet Winter, Ron (Shirley) Winter, David (Brenda) Winter, Doris (Pete) Wille and Pam (Bill) McKnight; also other relatives and friends.
