Charles Bruns, Jr. 91, of Spencer, formerly of Primghar passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at St. Luke Home in Spencer. His funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at United Church of Primghar with Pastor Mike Cooper, officiating.

Burial will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.

Visitation with family present will be from 9 to 10:15 A.M. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at United Church of Primghar.

CHARLES BRUNS, JR.

Charles Bruns Jr., the son of Charles Sr. and Lena (Stroman) Bruns was born on April 10, 1935 in Granville, Iowa. He received his education from Baker Township No. 8 Country School. After 8th grade he worked on the family farm in Granville. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Harms in Hartley, Iowa on April 21, 1957. They started their life together on a farm south of Hartley, then moved to Peterson to farm until 1970. After leaving the farm, he worked for Ken’s Feed Store in Sutherland.

In 1975 they moved into Primghar where they resided until 2023. While living in Primghar, he owned an upholstery business and drove bus for Primghar/South O’Brien School District. He enjoyed dancing, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

Foreign exchange students were a major part of the family’s life. Holger Schueler from Germany was here in 1976-1977. Helma VanderBoon from Holland was here in1977-1978.

Charles is survived by his wife, Evelyn Bruns of Spencer, Iowa; children, Dianne (Marvin) Dirks Jr., Fonda, Iowa; Darlene (Mike) Carlson, Spencer, Iowa; brother Denny Bruns of Orange City, Iowa; daughter-in-law Marie Bruns LeClair (Dale), Whiting, Iowa; sister in-law Bev (Darwin) Dau of Paullina; Iowa, Bernadine Timmerman of Paullina, Iowa, 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and many, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Dale Bruns and Darrell Bruns; grandchildren, James Bruns and Beckett Bruns; parents, Charles Sr. and Lena Bruns; in-laws, Henry and Gertie Harms; siblings, Leo (RuthAnn) Bruns, Clara (Burnell) Koehlmoos, Ralph (Betty Lois) Bruns, Betty Lou (Vernell Hoermann, Darrell Brotherton); Richard (Joan) Bruns and sister-in-law Janet Bruns (Denny).
