Dalton Harry Rehder, son of Harry and Lillian (Bern) Rehder was born April 16, 1928, in Cherokee County, Iowa. He attended school at Liberty Township School in Calumet, Iowa and graduated from High School there in 1945. He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Calumet.
He was united in marriage to Florence Dau on December 14, 1949, at the Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church. Three sons were born to this union, Michael, Mark, and Matthew.
The couple farmed on the family farm northwest of Calumet until they retired in 1989. As the old saying goes, “you can take the boy out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the boy,” he continued to help out at the farm whenever he could into his 90’s. Farming was his passion. He served on the Sutherland Elevator Board and also on the church board.
He enjoyed traveling, dancing and playing cards with his bowling buddies for many years. While he and Florence were able, they traveled to visit their children and other points of interest. He loved playing cards and games with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Florence, his sons, Michael (Paula) of Round Rock, Texas, Mark (Linda) of Bradenton, Florida and Matt (Christine) of Paullina, 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leonard, sister-in-law, Mary, and brother, LaVerne.
