David Leroy DeKok, the son of Daniel and Irene (DeYoung) DeKok, was born November 30, 1939, at home just north of Archer, Iowa. Dave never lived more than 2 miles from the place he was born.
Dave grew up as a typical farm kid. He loved horses and hated the chickens. He attended the Archer school and graduated from Archer High School in 1958.
David was united in marriage to the love of his life, Barbara Kaiser, on March 15th, 1961. They were blessed with three wonderful sons in the 6 years that followed – Steve, Jeff, and Scott. Dave and Barb were married for 22,595 days and not one went past without Dave telling Barb how much he loved her.
Dave helped his dad on the farm, but he was also quite a talker and liked to meet new people. This combination led Dave into the career that would bring him joy for many years, the siding and window business. In 1995, Dave and his sons started DK Plastics. Dave enjoyed telling people that our plastic is everywhere. “From a hog house to a lady’s purse, and everything in between.”
Dave’s hobbies included talking to people in his office, talking to the guys at work, talking over coffee uptown, talking on the phone, and singing. Dave was part of the Archer Gospel Quartet family. Dave, Myron, George, and Virgil were like brothers. They might disagree but they always ended up loving each other.
Dave’s love for the Lord was undeniable and contagious. He was a life-long member of the Archer Reformed Church. He enjoyed serving both the local church and the Reformed Church in America. Anyone who attended his High School Sunday School class knows the answer to question number one of the Heidelberg Catechism. “What is your only comfort life and in death?” They also all knew his favorite Bible verse, Proverbs 3:5-6.
Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara; their children, Steve and Diana DeKok, Jeff and Michelle DeKok, and Scott and Angie DeKok; their grandchildren Taylor and Sintija DeKok, Will and Laura DeKok, Olivia and Alec Dodds, Christina and Danial Moyer, Ellie and Nick Punchard, Noah and Nathalie DeKok, Alec DeKok, Jarron Clark, Kellen DeKok and Emma DeKok; great grandchildren, David, Kaia, Noah Roy, Samuel, Violet and Eleanor; his brother Rev. Donald and Susan DeKok, and other relatives and friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel, and Irene; his sister, Margene “Midge” and her husband Donald Andringa; and nephews Mike Andringa and Brent DeKok.
