Debra Jo (Dykstra) Peters was born on February 24, 1964 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jacob and Joan (Aberson) Dykstra, the oldest of three children. At the age of 15, she made Profession of Faith at Archer Reformed Church.

Debra grew up in Archer, Iowa, and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1982. She then attended Le Mars Beauty College for one year. On August 24, 1983 she was united in marriage to Martin Peters of Sheldon, Iowa at Archer Reformed Church. Together, they made their home just outside of Sheldon, Iowa, where they spent the majority of their lives.

She was passionate about helping others look and feel their best through her work as a hairdresser at His and Her Hair for many years. She truly loved her career, especially creating beautiful hairstyles for proms and weddings. Her clients held a special place in her heart, and she was always quick to compliment and encourage her coworkers.

Debra and Martin were active members at Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, where she faithfully served in many roles and committees, including the Worship, Decoration, Fellowship, and Education Committees. She also served as Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, where she loved planning and preparing many Christmas Programs. She also was in the church choir and was a GEMS Counselor.

Music was an important part of Debra's life. She enjoyed attending the RiseFest for many years and going to Live at the Lake concerts in Arnold's Park. She also cherished her time with her family, camping, shopping and caring for her grandchildren.

Debra will be lovingly remembered by her husband, children and grandchildren for her strong faith, selfless heart, generosity and the love she had for her family. She cherished any opportunity to connect with others, whether longtime friends or someone she had just met. Her greatest desire was that the next generation would continue to follow in the faith she lived so faithfully.

Debra went to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband, Martin Peters of Sheldon, Iowa; her children, Heather and Justin Moreau of Orange City, Iowa, and Brady and Brittany Peters of Sheldon, Iowa; her 10 grandchildren: Levi and Jenna Moreau, Landon, Eden, Arielle and Lakum Moreau, and Chase, Asher, Rhett and Isaac Peters; her siblings, Dave and Jen Dykstra of Boyden, Iowa, and Doug and Krista Dykstra of George, Iowa; and her siblings-in-law: Coranne and Rev. Jerry Vreeman of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jacqueline and Thomas Vreeman of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Barton and Debra K. Peters of Sheldon, Iowa.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Jacob and Joan Dykstra; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Theresa Peters; and other loved ones who went before her.

May the legacy of Debra's faith, love, generosity, and compassion continue through all who were blessed to know her.
