DELBERT BERT WIESE
Delbert was born February 26, 1924, in the family farm home in Cherokee County, Iowa, the son of Edward and Katharine (Jurgensen) Wiese. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Evangelical & Reformed Church in Calumet, Iowa. He graduated from Larrabee Consolidated School in 1941, and then served in the U.S. Navy aboard A036 USS Kennebec. Upon discharge, he returned to the family farm to farm with his brother. On December 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Ida Gerstandt at the church in Calumet. They farmed together in OBrien and Cherokee Counties until retirement in 1985. Bert was active in the Calumet Community Club and served several terms on the Calumet Church Board.
The couple moved from the farm to their retirement home in Paullina and joined the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. Throughout the years, Bert and Ida enjoyed traveling our great country. In retirement Bert stayed busy assisting at the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in Paullina for twenty years and helping with maintenance at Wide View Nursing Home in Paullina for a number of years. He enjoyed woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, word search books and coffee with the boys. Family was important to him both immediate and extended. In July, 2015, he moved to Sanborn and enjoyed the comforts of assisted living.
Delbert will lovingly be remembered by his two daughters, Vickie and Dave Frisbee of Paullina and Anita and Curt Miller of Spencer, Iowa; four grandchildren Angela and Mike Richardson of Adel, Iowa; Heidi and Ben OClair of Spencer, Iowa; Benjamin and Krista Miller of Hartley, Iowa and Katie Miller of Spencer, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail OClair and Brock Richardson. He also leaves one sister, Arlene Wittrock of Primghar, Iowa and one sister-in-law, Martha Swanson of Aurelia, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida on January 8, 2011; grandson, Troy Frisbee; a great granddaughter, Makayla OClair; his parents, one brother, Raymond Wiese; two sisters, Geneva (August) Gerstandt and Norma Wiese and a brother-in-law, Donald Wittrock.
