DELORES D. JALAS

Delores Dorothy Sophie (Menke) Jalas was born March 16, 1925 to Henry and Aletta (Hagedorn) Menke at her parents home in Calumet, Iowa. Delores was baptized at Zion Evangelical Reformed Church in Calumet, Iowa on February 21, 1926 and confirmed April 2, 1939. She attended and graduated from Calumet School in 1942. On July 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to Roy Rudolph Jalas at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Iowa, to this union was born 6 children. First lived on a farm south of Sutherland then moved to a farm near Cherokee in 1966. They retired and moved to Hartley in 1984 and then to their present home in Paullina in 1988. They ran the tavern in Larrabee for two years. She also was a Stanley dealer for 10 years and worked at Primghar in the Department of Human Services before retiring.
Delores was a member of Bethel Lutheran where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for several years. A member of Helping Hands and charter member of Bethel Lamplighters and still a member, she was also a charter member of Concordia League at Bethel Lutheran. She enjoyed time spent with family, church work, traveling and dancing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Richard (Susan) Jalas of Paullina, Iowa; Loretta (Mike) Johannsen of Sutherland, Iowa; Beverly (William) Johannsen of Paullina, Iowa; Donna (Lakin) Hines of Sun Lake, Arizona and Vickie (Jay) Dunn of Merrill, Iowa; 17 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in August of 1997 and a son, Robert Jalas in 1961.
