Delores J. Dekker, 84, of Sheldon, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn. Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Pastor Paul Van Maaren, officiating.

Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation with the family present will be from 2 – 4 P.M. on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

DELORES J. DEKKER
Delores Jean Dekker, the daughter of Ben and Henrietta (Van Wettering) Holtrop, was born on September 9, 1941, in Sheldon, Iowa. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Western Christian High School in 1959. After graduating, she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She met her future spouse scooping the loop in Sheldon. On February 5, 1965, she was united in marriage to Earle E. Dekker. In 1972, the couple moved out to the farm south of Sheldon where they raised their kids, Vicki, Brent & Kirk. Earle preceded Delores in death on June 29, 1993. After his passing, she worked at Children’s World where she enjoyed caring for the children and babies. Later she worked at Village Northwest at East Oaks Apartments as she enjoyed the residents and co-workers. Upon her retirement from Village Nortwest she spent many years traveling the United States on bus trips along with a cruise to Alaska which was a highlight for her. Delores passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Prairie View Home in Sanborn at the age of 84 years, 10 months, and 26 days.
Delores was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed shopping and had a great love for babies. While raising her children, she helped out on the farm. She was an avid cook and was known for her homemade cinnamon rolls.
Left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses, Vicki and Joel Klatt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Brent and Sue Dekker of Brandon, South Dakota, and Kirk and Tina Dekker of Sheldon; seven grandchildren, Madison and Gage Klatt, Cole, Chase, Avery, Kourtney and Peyton Dekker. Delores was also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Hilda Holtrop of Sheldon, Dennis (Elaine) Dekker of Sioux Center, Iowa, Joann Dekker of Maurice, Iowa, Lila Kosters of Orange City, Iowa; stepsister, Helen Mars of Orange City, Iowa; also, other relatives and friends.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Robert Holtrop, Alvin (Georgiann) Holtrop, John Holtrop, Gladys (Erv) Bolkema, brothers-in-law, Paul Dekker and Harold Kosters.
