DOROTHY “DODI” “DOTTIE” J. CHAMBERS
Dorothy “Dodi” “Dottie” Jean Chambers the daughter of George and Edith (Triplet) Aldred was born November 18, 1922 in Sutherland, Iowa. She moved with her family to Primghar and graduated from Primghar High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to Wayne “Swede” Chambers on September 22, 1942 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. After Wayne was discharged from the service the couple lived in Primghar, Sheldon and Storm Lake, Iowa before moving to California in 1960. The couple operated a skating rink for several years and Dorothy worked at Walt’s Bag of Chicken. The couple returned to Primghar in 1982, where they operated the Westside Café for a few years. Dorothy worked as a cook at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar before her retirement. Wayne “Swede” preceded her in death on May 31, 2001 in Primghar. Dorothy remained in her family home and entered the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar after a fall at her home. She passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the hospital reaching the age of 95 years and 1 month.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, making yoyo quilts and sequin calendars and baking, giving many of her baked goods to her friends in Primghar.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Peggy Hosbach of Primghar, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Cece Chambers of Primghar, Iowa; she has twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; one sister, Mildred Harms of Marcus, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Tom Merry of Primghar, Iowa; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, A.K. Chambers, a daughter, Sandra Perlin; six siblings, Velma Betz, Mary Lou Guetschow, Ronald Aldred, Shirley Kraft, Harold and Ken Chesley and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Merry.
