Don A. Merley, age 74, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the Sheldon United Methodist Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Kevin Gingerich ~ officiating.
Family Burial will be prior to the service at the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Don Merley age 74 of Sheldon, IA passed away July 13, 2021 at Sheldon Sanford Health Center. Don was the son of John and Mildred (De Graaf) Merley of Sheldon. He was born September 26, 1946 in Sheldon, IA. He spent his childhood on the family farm near Archer. In 1962 the family built a new house and moved to Sheldon. He attended Sheldon High School, graduating in 1962. Don's first job was driving a feed truck for Art Heerde and later worked as the Superintendent of Waste-Water Treatment for the City of Sheldon. He married the love of his life Barbara Adkins on May 28, 1966 in the Sheldon United Methodist Church where he was a member. They lived in Sheldon their entire married life, and together raised three children Todd, Jennifer, and David.
He enjoyed many hours of fishing at Lake Okoboji with his dad, sons, and grandsons. In later years he traveled to Canada to fish with his youngest son. He enjoyed golfing and watching all types of sports while keeping track of stats, and also watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports. He took great pleasure in spending weekends at the lake with the family. Don always appreciated a well-kept yard and worked hard to keep theirs up. In later years on their trips to Texas, Don and Barb loved hiking the trails in the Davis Mountains and Big Ben National Park.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Barbara, his children, Todd (Lisa) Merley of Ashton, Jennifer Pomerenke of Sibley and David Merley of Sheldon, and their six grandchildren, Brittany Pomerenke, Logan Merley, Lexie Rae Merley, Jordyn Novak, Brayden Pomerenke and Bentlie Merley; in addition to family and friends.
Proceeding in his death were his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
