DONALD A. RAY

Donald Arthur Ray, the son of Marion and Mae (Henry) Ray, was born October 12, 1917 in Salix, Iowa. He received his education in country schools in the Salix and Luton areas. On September 27, 1941, he was united in marriage to Lucille Jalas in Dakota City, Nebraska. Don was called into the service during W.W. II, serving in the Army from 1942 to 1945. After the service the couple farmed in Sutherland and Hartley, before moving to the Dakota City, Nebraska area. They returned to Sutherland in 1966 and they farmed until retiring in 1981 and later moved into Sutherland in 1983. His wife preceded him in death on August 5, 1993 in Cherokee. Don remained in the family home and in 2001, moved to assisted living at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. He passed away at the care center on Saturday, September 15, 2007, reaching the age of 89 years, 11 months and 3 days.
He was baptized and confirmed on May 15, 1966 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, where he was currently a member. He was a member of the American Legion of Sutherland and enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.
Don leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters and their husbands, Claryce A. and Mike Welch of Sioux City and Rosezanna M. and Rev. Gary Landsness of LeMars, Iowa and one son and his wife, Daniel L. and Penny Ray of Waukee, Iowa; also 9 grandchildren, Amy Wachter, Molly Perez, Timothy Ray, Andrew Ray, Rebecca Linton, Daniel Landsness, Sarah Landsness, Ginny Ray and Rachel Landsness; 7 great grandchildren, Jordan Wachter, Connor Wachter, Logan Wachter, Brooklyn Linton, David Perez, Tanner Perez and Jayden Linton; two brothers and their wives, Wayne and Velma Ray of Sioux City and Wilbur (Bud) and Bonnie Ray of Sloan, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy Foley of Omaha, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law, Faye Ray of Kingsley, Iowa; Evelyn Jalas of Sutherland and Delores Jalas of Paullina; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lucille, a great granddaughter, Kayla Michelle Wachter, his parents, three brothers and one sister.

my cup runneth over.

Lord forever.
