After today’s graveside service, relatives and friends are invited to join the family in the fellowship hall of the church.

Donnette R. Meyer, was born on June 3, 1953, to Donald and Darlene (Kniese) Richter in Primghar, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown.

Donnette received her early education through the 8th grade at St. John Lutheran School and graduated from Paullina High School in 1971. She received her dental assistant diploma at Nettleton Business College in Omaha, NE in 1973.

On October 5, 1974, Donnette was united in marriage to Wilbur Meyer at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. They resided in Paullina, where they raised their three children.

Donnette worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Schultz/Dr. Roed for twelve years. She then began her career at Staples until her retirement in 2016. Many knew her as “Donut” and remember her for her radiant smile, crazy jokes, and infectious laughter.

In 1986, Donnette became an EMT with the Paullina Ambulance and served faithfully for several years. You could often find her also working part-time at night and on weekends over the years at Piccadilly’s Pizza, Casey’s & Cenex in Paullina, as well as selling Avon for many years.

Donnette had a passion for baking and was also well known for her homemade Chex Mix and her delicious macaroni salad. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, flowers, birdwatching, and Friday night wrestling. Her favorite thing to do though, was watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play ball.

Her home was always beautifully landscaped and decorated to match every season and holiday. She especially loved decorating for Christmas and made sure her entire family was never left out from her immense heart of gift-giving. More than anything, Donnette loved her family dearly; she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to the family’s yearly cabin trips to Maryview Beach and later, to the Dog Creek Grain Bin Cabin. She also loved animals; her precious dog Lilly was her best friend after Wilbur passed away in November 2015. Lilly was Donnette’s companion, her comfort and was always by her side.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Nicholas Meyer of Paullina; Nicole Meyer of Paullina; Natalie Meyer (fiancé, Ryan Hansen) of Schaller. Grandchildren: Tayler Florine of Alta; Lana Florine of Paullina; Abbi (Matt) Hansen of Sioux Falls; Matt and Taylor Hansen of Schaller. Brother: David (Cindy) Richter of Paullina. Aunt: Elaine Waggoner of Hartley; nephews, nieces, great nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends, and her precious dog, Lilly Lou. Donnette was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wilbur; and her parents, Donald and Darlene Richter; her in-laws and many other family members.
