Celebration of Life services for Doris M. Vogelaar 95 of Sheldon who passed away on Saturday August 22, 2026 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Services will begin at 2 P.M. Saturday September 12, 2026 at the Sheldon Eagles Club. Family graveside services will be Saturday September 12, 2026 at the East Lawn Cemetery. There will be no visitation. The Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Sheldon is in charge of arrangements.

Doris M. Vogelaar

Doris “Dot” Maxine Vogelaar, the daughter of Leo and Lulu Dougherty was born on September 11, 1930, in Primghar, Iowa.

Dot cleaned homes before she became a stay at home mother to her five children. She passed away in Sheldon, Iowa on August 22, 2026 at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 11 days.

Some of the things she enjoyed in her 35,043 days of life consisted of being a stay at home mom, cooking, and baking cookies with the grandkids. She ruled her kitchen with warmth and ensured that no one ever left hungry. She was known as the heart of her family. Her fierce spirit lives on in the family she so deeply nurtured.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children; Susan (David) Janssen, Steven Vogelaar, Sherry Zembsch, Rick Vogelaar; grandchildren: April, Amber, Jennifer (Travis), Jason (Elizabeth), Jesse (Ashlynn), Jeremy (Brandi), Claude (Whitney), Steven, Brianna, Shelby (Vieng) and Dylan; Great-grandchildren: Stacia, Samantha (Mathew) Gavin, Preston, Freya, Ember, Peyton (Shyla), Ethan, Briggs, Malia, Navie, and Tatum; great-great-grandchildren: Emerson and Amelia; sister in law Susan, daughter in law Abby along with many nieces and nephews.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Leo and Lulu; her siblings: Faye, Donny and Jolene; her son Billy, son-in-law Leon and best friend Gilda.

Dot leaves behind a legacy of unmatched strength and boundless love.
