Services for Dorothy A. Dykhuizen, age 79, of Sheldon who passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Her memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church in Sheldon with Rev. Zac Patke ~ officiating.
Her graveside service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.
A public visitation will be held from 5 - 7 P.M. on Monday, March 22, 2021 at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.
Masks are recommended for the visitation and service.

DOROTHY A. DYKHUIZEN

Dorothy Ann Dykhuizen, the daughter of Alfred and Sophia (Vander Lee) Dykhuizen was born on November 9, 1941 in Sioux County near Sheldon, Iowa. She attended a country school until 8th grade. Then attended Sheldon High School, graduating in 1960. She went on to further her education at Bob Jones University, graduating in 1964. She received her master’s degree at the University of South Dakota in 1969. She taught school for 34 years in Cherokee, Iowa, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rock Rapids, Iowa and spent 27 years in Sioux Center, Iowa. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at the Village at the Treasure Chest. Dorothy passed away on Friday, March 19, 2021 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon reaching the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
Dorothy was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sheldon. Church was an important part of her life as she enjoyed going to Bible School. She enjoyed reading and spent many hours volunteering for the Village. She was a loyal caregiver to her mother.
Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her cousins and many friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Sophia and a brother, Duane Dykhuizen.
