Doug Elgersma

June 18, 1951 — February 1, 2016

Doug Elgersma, age 64, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 1, 2016 at his home in Sheldon. Memorial Services will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Living Water Community Church in Sheldon, Iowa. Pastor Troy Van Beek officiating. There will be no visitation. Douglas Reed Elgersma, the son of Wesley and Thelma (Schultz) Elgersma, was born in Sheldon, Iowa on June 18, 1951. Doug was the proud eldest of six siblings that blessed the Elgersma home. He attended Christian grade school in Sheldon and graduated in 1969 from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. Doug attended Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan for one year after high school graduation. Doug was united in marriage to Debra Brinkman on June 17, 1972 at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. From their union was born a daughter, Robbie, and a son, Corey. They later divorced. Doug lived most of his life in Sheldon. Doug was a successful Ag salesman in seed and chemical, where he received many awards for his performance. Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman as well, making numerous trips to Canada and Battle Lake, Minnesota with friends to enjoy those hobbies. He also enjoyed bowling and playing golf and camping in the summer with family and friends. Doug was a friend to many and had a very generous heart. Doug passed away at his home on February 1, 2016. Doug is survived by his daughter, Robbie (Chad "Tony") Jungers of Boyden, IA and his son, Corey (Teri) Elgersma of Sheldon, IA, one grandson, Jordan (Jamie) Mouw of Davenport, IA and three granddaughters, Ashley, Bailey & Gracie Elgersma, all of Sheldon. Doug was very excited and looked forward to becoming a great grandpa this coming summer. Doug is also survived by his mother, Thelma Elgersma of Sanborn, IA; 3 brothers: Tim of Menasha, WI, Barry (Brenda) of Sioux Falls, SD, and Fred of Waterford, CT; two sisters: Starla (Lee) Reitsma of Sanborn, IA and Gloria (George) Miller of Middleburg, IA. Doug leaves behind many, many friends and a large extended family. Doug is preceded in death by his father, Wes Elgersma, his grandparents and a host of family & friends, many gone too soon.
