ELMER L. STANGELAND
Elmer Lowell Stangeland the son of Jonas and Carrie (Lura) Stangeland was born February 18, 1923 in Primghar. He was raised on the family farm three and a half miles south of Primghar. He was confirmed at the Siloam Lutheran Church in Paullina. He graduated from Gaza High School in 1941. Elmer was united in marriage to June Elaine Lorenzen on March 9, 1947 at Primghar Congregational Church. To this union two children were born, Ronald and Susan. After marriage they farmed on the family farm for 45 years before moving to Primghar in September 1992. He sold seed corn for many years as well. Elmer and June moved to Prairie View in 2017. Elmer passed away at Prairie View Home in Sanborn on Friday, May 4, 2018 reaching the age of 95 years, 2 months and 16 days.
Elmer was a member of the United Church of Primghar and had served as chairman of the trustees. He was also a member of the Rising Star Masonic Lodge of Primghar, director of Highland Township, 4-H leader of Highland Township for 10 years and chairman of Highland Township Extension Board. He enjoyed farming the land for many years, coffee with friends, golfing and bowling. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren and attending their activities.
Left to cherish his memory his wife, June of 71 years; son, Ronald and his wife, JoAnn of Albert Lea, Minnesota; daughter, Susan and her husband, Rod of Larchwood, Iowa; three grandchildren, Deanna Schave of Wichita, Kansas, Tony (Michelle) Stangeland of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Ryan Schave of Broomfield, Colorado; two great grandchildren, Tyler and Briannah Stangeland; also other relatives and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lois and brother-in-law, Elroy Skaar.
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
