ELVIRA R. YOUNGERS
Elvira Rose Youngers, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on October 19, 2020 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa with loving family at her side.
Elvira was born on January 20, 1930, on her family farm in Sioux County, Iowa, where she grew up. After marrying Raymond Youngers on Jan. 27, 1948, they raised six children on the same farm where her husband was born. They later moved to Sheldon and then Sun City West, Arizona. After Raymond’s death in 2015, she returned to Sheldon to be near family and friends.
Elvira was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and she was the past regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Elvira loved crocheting for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her love of cooking; some of her famous recipes included her chocolate cake, salad dressing, dinner rolls, and her chocolate chip cookies (which no one could duplicate, even when she was assisting while constantly giggling).
Elvira is survived by six children and their spouses: Mike Youngers and his wife Lisa, Topeka, KS; Dave Youngers and his wife Ellen, Oronoco, MN; Susan Draftz and her husband Tim, Atchison, KS; Janet Andringa and her husband Greg, Sheldon, IA; Kevin Youngers and his wife Debbie, Greeley, CO; Loren Youngers and his wife Dixie, Kansas City, MO; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Cordella (George) Hansen of Windom, MN, Charlotte Von Arb of Spring, TX, Flora Hansen of Alton, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers, Bernard and Herbert Portz; sister, Lorna Portz; brothers-in-law, “Bud” Everett Von Arb and Nic Hansen; nephews, Stanley Portz and Daryl Von Arb.
