HELEN M. REUVERS
Helen Marie Reuvers the daughter of Henry and Dora (Boender) Westra was born May 26, 1934 on the family farm 3 miles south of Boyden, Iowa. She received her education in Sioux County country school and later graduated from Boyden High School with the class of 1952. On October 17, 1952 she was united in marriage to Henry Junior Reuvers at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple settled in Boyden. The couple moved to the Westra family farm southwest of Boyden in 1969. Together they farmed and raised a herd of purebred Angus cattle. The couple moved into Boyden in 2001 to make their home. Her husband preceded her in death on February 10, 2017, after 64 years of marriage. Helen remained in the family home and passed away on Sunday June 1, 2025 reaching the age of 91 years and 5 days.
Helen was the longest living lifetime member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden where she was baptized, had her profession of faith and was a very active member. She was also an active member of the Ladies Aid of the church. Helen dedicated her life to her family, to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, attending as many of their events as she was able. She was active in the Sioux County Fair and her kid’s 4-H with showing at the Fair. In her younger years she was a member of the Boyden Ladies town softball team, and was one of the last surviving members of the 1952 softball team.
Those that will miss Helen’s quiet demeanor, steadfast countenance and her strong Christian example are her children; three sons Tom Reuvers of Boyden, Iowa; Jerry (Mary Beth) Reuvers of Orange City, Iowa; and Dennis (Tracie) Reuvers of Rock Rapids, Iowa; one daughter Marcia (John) Neely of Moville, Iowa; a daughter-in-law Melody Reuvers of Boyden, Iowa; also 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren with two on the way; a sister-in-law Winifred Simmelink of Orange City, Iowa. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Junior, son Douglas Reuvers, daughter-in-law Bobby Reuvers, great grandson Jacob Koob, parents Henry and Dora, and one sister Dorothy (Albert) Van Gorp.
