Jan M. Pennings, age 70, of Sheldon, Iowa who passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Rev. Paul Van Maaren ~ officiating.
Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation will be after 2:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2020 at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sheldon.
The family requests that everyone follow the social distancing
guidelines during visitation and the service at the church.

Jan Marie Pennings, the daughter of Arnold and Adeline (Harms, Wilson) Gibbons was born on July 13, 1950 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota. Jan moved around as a child with her parents until settling down in Sanborn, Iowa. She graduated from the Melvin High School in 1969 and went on to attended Northwest Iowa Vocational College in Sheldon earning a 2-year Accounting degree. Jan started working at the Northwest Iowa Workshop, where she met Ivan Dale Pennings. They were married on August 30, 1975 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. They made their home in Sheldon where they raised their family. Jan worked various jobs throughout the years as a secretary; a cook, a baker and as a Manager/District Manager of Casey’s Convenient Stores until her health started to decline and she retired. Jan passed away at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 70 years, 1 month and 5 days.
Jan was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Jan enjoyed cooking, bowling, sewing, playing Scrabble, going to casinos, traveling, and talking to her family and friends daily. The most important thing to Jan was spending time with family and friends. She took great pride in each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always willing to talk to someone about each and every one of them throughout the years.
Those left to cherish her memories is a son, John (Alicia) Pennings of Ashton, Iowa, and their children, Tara (Kyle) Dole, Dana Pennings, Jennifer Mangel, Connor Murphy; a daughter, Kimberley (Jerry) Murra of Ireton, Iowa, and their children, Megan (Nathan) Ray and their children, Aiden and Chloe, James Murra, Samantha Murra; sisters, Pat Noethe and Barb Nilles; brother, Joel (Linda) Gibbons; sisters-in-law, Mary Gibbons, Marlene (Allan) VandeKamp, Leona (Vernon) VandeKamp, Ada Geels, Helen Bajema, Irene (Curtis) Van Oort, Deanne Pennings and Sheila Jones; also many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Ivan Pennings; granddaughter, Jerica Leanne Sullens; her parents; a sister, Wendy Wilson; a brother, Daniel Gibbons; sisters-in-law, Julianna Vander Pol and Marlene Pennings; brothers-in-law, Jack Noethe, Henry “Hank” Pennings, Robert Bajema, Robert Geels, Gerard “Jerry” Vander Pol.
