Jane Marie Bjork was born April 30, 1925 on the farm west of Archer, Iowa to Herman and Jennie Bruggom. She received her education at Floyd 6 Country School through 8th grade. Putting a hold on her education to attend to family matters, Jane latter obtained her high school diploma through state testing.
As a young woman, Jane lived in Seattle, Washington exploring the West Coast and working as a nursing aide. When she returned, she enrolled in the Methodist School of Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa graduating in 1953.


On September 25, 1953, Jane married Charles Bjork Jr.. They began their new adventure on a farm near Archer, Iowa. As their family expanded so did their farming enterprise, purchasing additional land by Paullina, Iowa, where they eventually moved their 5 children. Jane continued to live on the farm until her death at age 95.
Jane worked as an RN at Sheldon Hospital and as the Director of Nursing at the Paullina Nursing Home, She taught CNA Classes through NCC. After retirement, Jane became active in NAMI (National Association for the Mentally Ill.) She served as president of the local chapter, traveling to Washington, DC to lobby for the mentally ill.
Jane enjoyed traveling making trips to the east and west coasts and Australia. She was an avid gardener and tackled landscaping with her spade.
Charlie and Jane enjoyed dancing, music, playing cards and had many fishing adventures. All her life, she was an advocate for animals, which became evident in much of her art. Jane was a locally renowned artist. She excelled at a young age in drawing and was accepted into the Minnesota School of Art. Although she pursed a career in nursing, art was always her first love. She belonged to the O’Brien County Art Club and participated in numerous art shows.
Jane was an independent person with an adventurous spirit. Her wit and common sense will be remembered by many friends and family. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids.
On January 7, 2021, Jane passed from this life and traveled to Iowa City, Iowa, where she entered into the “University of Iowa Body Donation Program” to continue to educate young people.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles Bjork Jr. and her son, Joel Bjork; her parents, Herman and Jennie Bruggom and a brother, William Bruggom.
She is survived by her children, Sherri (John) Larkin of Omaha, NE; Kim (Jeff) Hurtig of Sheldon, IA; Susan (Steve) Wallin of Paullina, IA and Kathy (Dennis) Edwards of Harrisburg, PA; 11 grandchildren, Mackenzie and Jack Larkin; Beau and Chase Hurtig; Taylor, Travis, Shara and Jake Wallin and Adam, Nick and Tanner Edwards; 7 great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Henry, Fiona, Gabriella, Deagan, Maci and Arie; along with her siblings, Phyllis (Ray) Elgersma of Sanborn, IA; Ruth Ballou of Sanborn, IA and Larry (Carol) Bruggom of Sheridan, MT and other relatives and friends.
