JANICE LEE HANSEN

October 11, 1947 – October 4, 2025

Janice Lee Hansen, the daughter of Rod and Mary Jean (Bornholdt) Krummel, was born on October 11, 1947, in Atlantic, Iowa. She grew up in Walnut, Iowa, graduating from Walnut High School in 1965. Following graduation, she attended beauty college and earned her degree in cosmetology.

On May 31, 1969, Jan was united in marriage to Roger D. Hansen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. The couple made their home in Primghar, where Jan began her lifelong career of serving others. She worked as a hairstylist in Primghar for many years before joining the United States Postal Service, first in Sheldon, then as Postmaster in Larchwood and finally serving in Primghar, where she later retired.

After Roger’s passing in 1990, Jan remained in the family home in Primghar and built a rich, fulfilling life surrounded by friends, family, and community. She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, where her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life.

Jan loved the simple joys of life — sunny days at Spirit Lake, time spent golfing, and peaceful mornings at the beach. She cherished visits to Texas to be with her grandchildren and treasured the many adventures she shared with her longtime companion, Gerald Leng. Together, they traveled to different countries and visited numerous Presidential Libraries across the United States.

Jan is lovingly remembered by her son, Mitchel Hansen, and two grandsons, Bryce and Wyatt Hansen, all of Aledo, Texas; her companion Gerald Leng and his family; her brother Gary (Deanna) Krummel of Avoca, Iowa; and her sisters Sally Matthies of Walnut, Susan Wedemeyer of Atlantic, and Peggy Christensen of Sioux City. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roger, and her parents, Rod and Mary Jean Krummel.

Jan passed away peacefully in Primghar on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 23 days, surrounded by the love of her family. Her warmth, laughter, and kindness will be remembered by all who knew her.
