            Services for Jean A. Mundy, age 94, of Fulda, Minnesota who passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda, Minnesota.

            Jean Adley (DeZeeuw) Munday passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Maple Lawn Senior Care in Fulda, Minnesota.  She was born on August 21, 1929, on a farm near Middleburg, Iowa in Sioux County to Peter and Jeanette (Giebink) DeZeeuw.  She was the middle child of their five children.

            As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm near Boyden, Iowa.  There she attended a country school a ½ mile from their farm.  She graduated from the 8^th grade, and then she attended high school in Sheldon, Iowa, at the age of 13 years old.  During her four years of high school, she roomed and boarded with the Postma family, as there was no bus service from the rural area.   She graduated in 1946 at the age of 16.   She then started working for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.  She then roomed and boarded with Mrs. Cob’s apartment, ½ block from the phone company.

            She met Garness Ivan Mundy, and they got married on June 1, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

            They first lived in Sheldon and then moved to Sioux City, Iowa.  She worked at Kresge’s and JCPenney’s.  Then they moved to Vermillion, South Dakota, where they managed a hotel for two years.   Then they moved back to Sioux City.   She then went to work for the Bell Telephone Company.  She worked for Northwest Bell, U.S. West, Qwest, and Verizon Phone Companies.

            In March 1977, she transferred to Fargo, North Dakota with the phone company.  They lived there for five years and then they moved to Arizona.  She was transferred to Qwest Phone Company in Tempe, Arizona.   They lived in Bonita Vista Retirement Park in Apache Junction, Arizona.  She worked for 35 years for the telephone company.  She retired at the age of 55 years old.  She and Ivan sold their place and bought a travel trailer.  They would spend the summer months at Sioux Center, Iowa, so she was able to visit her mother at the Hull Nursing Home.  When her mother passed away, they moved back to Mesa, Arizona and retired to the East Gate Retirement Park.  She was a member of the Methodist Church in Arizona and was in charge of the after-church coffee and baked many cakes.

            Ivan passed away in August of 2014.  In 2018, Jean moved back to Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota to be close to her family.  She is survived by her youngest sister, Elvera Nelson of Slayton, Minnesota, plus 6 nieces and 3 nephews.

            She is preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, her parents, Peter and Jeanette DeZeeuw, two sisters and their husbands, Muriel and Delbert Haht and Marcella and Marvin Breuer.  Brother and wife, Wesley and Bertha DeZeeuw and brother-in-law, Eldon Nelson and two nieces, Joyce Miller and Baby Wanda Joy DeZeeuw and nephew Preston DeZeeuw.
