John "Jack" Vos

John "Jack" Vos, age 82, of Ashton, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. Funeral Services will be Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 10:30 A.M at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Dave Van Kley officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 20, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. John "Jack" Engel Vos was born on May 25, 1933 in Ashton, Iowa. He was the son of Peter and Christena (Hector) Vos. He lived his youth near Sheldon, Iowa where he attended a country school. He served in the Iowa National Guard for 6 years. He was known for his shooting ability. In his younger years he was a farmer, hauled milk, operated a corn shelling business and had his own trucking business. He hauled propane and especially enjoyed hauling gravel for O'Brien County. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Lou Grave of Sibley, Iowa on December 31, 1982 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They purchased J & B Bar in Sheldon 32 years ago and owned and operated it to the present. Jack enjoyed visiting and his friendship was endearing to many people. Jack enjoyed fishing, traveling to Canada and Chamberlain, SD and fishing in the Sheldon Walleye Tournament in Gettysburg, SD. He liked being outdoors, motorcycle riding, hunting, and camping with the family. His family was very important to him and he centered his activities around them. He will be remembered as a loving and positive father, husband and friend. Jack and Bonnie were members of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. Jack was diagnosed with dementia eleven years ago and it slowly progressed. He passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Bonnie Vos of Ashton, IA; his children: Rochelle and Roger Mouw of Sheldon, IA and their children, Ryan and Katie, Randy and Ali, and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Landon, Linnea, Mason and Marshall; Kraig and Marg Vos of Okoboji, IA and their children, Meredith and Justin Jonas, Andrew and Eric, and great-grandchildren, Brooke and Claire; Thad and Paula Schoneman of Ashton, IA and their children, Matthew Schoneman, John and Ashley Merley, Brianna and Shelby Vogelaar and great-grandchild Halynn; Tyann Thong Vanh of Sheldon, IA and friend Julene Tucker and her children, Adam and Caitlin, Andy and Ali and Anita; Tim Vos of Atlanta, GA and son Triston; Terry and Deborah Vos of Denver, CO and their children Selah and Luke; one brother: Paul (Donna) Vos of Lake Park, IA; one sister: Pauline (Ben) Damstra of Sioux Center, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Beau Vos.
