JOLENE A. SPECHT
Jolene Ann Specht, the daughter of Hans William and Lucille (Tesch) Hurtig was born on September 4, 1946 in Paullina, Iowa. She received her education from Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Sutherland High School. On June 19, 1964, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Specht in Hartley, Iowa. After their marriage the couple spent most of their married life in Minnesota where they raised their family. Returning to Iowa the couple moved to Primghar for a few years before moving to Paullina where they made their home for seventeen years. Jolene moved with Ken to Pearl Valley Rehab and Care Center in January of 2017. Ken preceded Jolene in death on September 14, 2017. Jolene passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, reaching the age of 71 years, 2 months and 3 days.
Jolene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. She enjoyed baking, especially during the holiday season along with decorating her home with lights. In her younger years she enjoyed crocheting blankets. Crosswords and reading were also one of her hobbies along with fishing and camping. She was a CNA for 45 years and also provided home care after she retired.
Jolene leaves her four children, Todd Specht, Darin Specht, Bill and his wife, Deanna all of Sartell, Minnesota and Melissa and her husband, James Yecha of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; also seven grandchildren, Wesley, Jessie, Jacob, Haley, McKenzie, Tyler and Darin; siblings, Waldo Hurtig, Don (LaDonna) Hurtig, Vern (Pam) Hurtig, Rich (Paula) Hurtig, Marge Metheny and Pam (Pat) Hill; sisters-in-law, Charlene and Joni Hurtig; also other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, daughter-in-law, Joni Specht, her parents, brothers, Marlo and Loren Hurtig; sisters, Audrey Underwood, Myrna Sickelka and Sheryl Ray, in infancy.
