Joni Kay Davis

Joni Kay Davis, age 43, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Paul Van Maaren officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Friday, July 12, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. all at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Joni Kay Davis was born on October 19, 1975 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Charles and Lavonne (Lode) Wolthuizen. She lived her youth in Sheldon, graduating from Sheldon Community High School in 1994. In 1995, Joni earned her secretarial degree through Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon. On April 13, 1996 she married Mike Davis of Sheldon. From this union, they were gifted with two children, son, Michael Davis Jr. of Sheldon, IA; daughter, Brianna Davis of Sheldon, IA. They later divorced. Throughout her life, she was employed at Village Northwest Unlimited and worked at East Elementary School in Sheldon where she was loved by many. Thereafter, she was employed by Casey's General Store in Sheldon where she was presently working as the manager. She knew her customers by name, always had something to say and was known for her smile and laughter. Joni cherished spending time with her children and was very proud of their accomplishments. Every afternoon, Joni would take her dog, Lucy, for a run on the country. She enjoyed walking, baking, going to her nieces and nephews activities and going on mini vacations with her boyfriend, Ryan Pomrenke and his children, Elizabeth (Kris) Hubner, Sammy Pomrenke, and Eddie Pomrenke. She also spent her summers watching summer theatre productions, coaching sporting events, and attending concerts. She enjoyed volunteering at events such as Risefest and anywhere else she could lend a hand. Joni was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. She passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Those left to cherish her memories are her son, Michael Davis Jr. of Sheldon, IA; her daughter, Brianna Davis of Sheldon, IA; 2 sisters, Jeana (Jeff) Wollmuth of Sheldon, IA, Julie Kavanagh (Todd Uhl) of Sheldon, IA; 3 brothers, Jeff (Lisa) Wolthuizen of Akron, IA, Jerry (Kim) Wolthuizen of Sheldon, IA, Jason (Sara) Wolthuizen of Sioux Falls, SD; 9 nieces, 14 nephews; 2 great nieces, 3 great nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lavonne Wolthuizen; her maternal grandparents, Werner Lode, Beulah Lode and stepgrandmother, Allie Lode; her paternal grandparents, John and Ruth Wolthuizen.
