Joyce L. Addengast

Joyce L. Addengast, age 87, of Sheldon, Iowa, formerly of Ashton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Ashton Bible Church in Ashton. Rev. Dan Kunnari officiating. Burial to follow at Gilman Township Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 13, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Joyce Lavonne Addengast was born on March 14, 1931 in Ashton, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harry and Luetta (Roelfs) Addengast. She lived her youth in Ashton where she attended the Ashton Public School, graduating in 1949 as the salutatorian of her class. She felt the Lord leading her to teach and so she attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, receiving her 2 year teaching certificate. After teaching for two years, she felt that was not her calling. She then went to Northwestern College in Minneapolis, Minnesota for almost one year until she was needed at home to take care of her father who had broken a hip. She also got a job at Aalfs Manufacturing in Sheldon where she worked for 5 years. Joyce worked at a nursing home in Ashton for 10 years and then worked at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon for 20 years, until she retired. After retirement, she took care of her mother until her mother passed away. Joyce was a member of the Ashton Bible Church where she played the organ and piano and was a member of the Ladies Bible Study. Joyce passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Sheldon Sanford Medical Center in Sheldon. Those left to cherish her memories are 3 nieces and one nephew, Sheryl (Andy) Holmes of Bishop, CA, Debra Hessman of Hartley, IA, Cindy (Jeff) Claus of Las Vegas, NV, Harvey (Aurora) Addengast of Valley Springs, SD; one sister-in-law, Barb (Dennis) Laughlin of Battlecreek, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Luetta Addengast; one brother, John R. Addengast; nephew, John C. Addengast. In Loving Memory Of Joyce L.
