Joyce Meister, age 73, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon.

Her funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa, with Pastor Dave Van Kley officiating.

Burial will be in the Roseland Cemetery in Sanborn.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home Sheldon.

Joyce Yvonne Meister, the daughter of Walter and Jessie (Dykstra) Vander Plaats was born on March 9, 1952, in Sheldon, Iowa. She graduated from Hull Western High School in 1971. She married Alan Meister and to this union four daughters were born, Amanda, Michelle, Rebecca, and Heather. Joyce spent most of her career working at Prairie View Home in Sanborn as a nurse’s aide. She also worked for White Wolf Web and NW Iowa Landfill. Joyce passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center at the age of 73 years, 10 months, and 21 days.

Joyce was a member of Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon. She loved cats and reading books.

Left to cherish Joyce’s memory are her four daughters, Amanda McKee, Michelle Meister, Rebecca Meister and Heather (Phil) Duin; twelve grandchildren; siblings, Beverly (Mike) Baumgarn, Ruth (Don) Post, Sharon Zylstra, Paul (Kim) Vander Plaats, and Rob Vander Plaats; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, partner, Brad Collum, an infant brother, brother, Bryan Vander Plaats and brother-in-law, Lynn Zylstra.
