JOYCE SCHMIDT

Joyce (Dykstra) Schmidt passed away May 3, 2026. She was 91 years old. Joyce was born January 10th, 1935, in O’Brien County to Ralph and Tillie Dykstra. Married Henry F. Schmidt, October 4, 1957.

Joyce was a faithful member of Parkview Assembly of God Church in Sheldon. She was very involved in women’s ministries and was very committed to her bible study group.

Joyce was fond of traveling. She has been on many of the roads across the country to see family, visiting friends old and new and enjoying God’s beautiful landscapes.

Joyce deeply valued family and cherished the many friendships she built throughout her life. She had a gift for connecting with others, always welcoming new friends along the way. What made her especially remarkable was her ability to remember the little details—about people, their lives, and their families, making everyone feel seen and cared for. She was also often remembered for her cooking and delicious desserts, which brought people together and made every gathering feel special.

Joyce is survived by her Husband Henry of 68 years, Daughters Patricia (Doug) Meester, Carol (Kirk) Watson of Ames, IA. Joyce has 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Brother Henry (Carolyn) Dykstra, Brother-in-Law Edwin (Donna) Vander Stoep.

Joyce is preceded in death by parents Ralph and Tillie (Damstra) Dykstra, sisters Charlotte Schmidt, Sylvia Wielenga, Noreen Vander Stoep, Son Everett Schmidt and Son-in-Law Kevin Kisling.
