Services for Julie A. Rust 66 of Sheldon who passed away on Monday February 16, 2026 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Service will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday February 24, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. Father Siby Punnoose will officiate.

Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. 

Rosary by St. Patrick's Guild at 4:30 P.M. Monday at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home and visitation with the family present 5 to 7 P.M. Monday February 23,2026 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Julia Ann Rust, beloved daughter of Jerry and Linda Kallhoff, was born on February 26, 1959, in Sidney, Nebraska. Julia, known as Julie or JuJu to her friends and family, attended Chadron State College and dedicated much of her life to education, teaching at Saint Patrick’s Catholic School and coaching at both Saint Patrick’s and Sheldon Community Schools. Later, she became an insurance agent with Prins Insurance in Sheldon for 23 years, retiring in July 2021. In retirement, Julie found joy assisting at Lindsey’s home daycare in Sheldon.

Julie’s passions included golf, reading with book club, spending time with her grandchildren, and playing with her cat, JJ. She cherished “sister weekends” with her sisters Gina Jackson of Omaha, NE, Lisa Sokolowski of Kearney, NE, and Laura Goeltl of Fort Collins, CO. She most enjoyed visiting her mother, Linda Kallhoff, at her home in Chadron, NE, as well as the annual Kallhoff Reunion at Chadron State Park.

Julie met the love of her life, Craig in 2001 and they married on June 21, 2003. Together they share four children: Craig’s son Mike Rust, and Julie’s children Lindsey Pesek, Dana Miller, and TJ Miller (Kayla Miller). Julie was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Kara Nieuwenhuis, Taryn Granillo (Alan), Chase Pesek, Kellan Fonkert, Ashlyn Van Beek, and Camden, Maverick, and Briar Miller.

She was preceded in death by her father Jerry Kallhoff, her father-in-law Don Rust, and her infant son Ryan.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Saint Patrick’s Catholic School of Sheldon, Iowa.
