            Kathleen “Kathy” Landhuis, age 80 of rural Sheldon, Iowa, passed away at her home on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Her Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Archer Community Church with Pastor Jim Sweers ~ officiating.

Burial with a Graveside Service will be at 9:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa,

Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Kathleen “Kathy” Landhuis

 

   Kathleen Louise Landhuis the daughter of Gerald and Lillian (King) Latterell was born March 23, 1943 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She moved with her family to Sheldon where she graduated from Sheldon High School in 1961. She attended and graduated from St Cloud Hospital School of Nursing in St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1964. On November 18, 1967 she was united in marriage to Keith Landhuis at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. The couple made their home in Sheldon where Kathy was employed as a nurse at the Baum-Harmon Hospital in Primghar, the Sheldon Family Clinic, was Sheldon Community schools nurse for 15 years and before she retired in 2006 she was employed at Seasons Mental Health. Her husband preceded her in death on September 21, 2023 at the family home in rural Sheldon. Kathy remained at the family home where she passed away on Thursday December 28, 2023 reaching the age of 80 years nine months and five days.

    She was a member of the Archer Community Church in Archer and had served on many boards in the church and taught Bible study, and was a founder of the Girlfriends night out quilters group through the church. She was a 4-H leader and had served on the board of the Village Northwest in Sheldon for 8 years. She was a quilter, baker, gardener, loved to take walks and ride her bike. Family was most important to Kathy and the special times they all spent together.

      Kathy is survived by her children; Margaret (Scott) Westre of Hastings, Minnesota; Angie (Steve) Fischer of Sheldon, Iowa; Brian (Cindy) Landhuis of Savage, Minnesota; Stephanie Landhuis of Sheldon, Iowa and Steven (Ashli) Landhuis of Archer, Iowa; eight grandchildren Samuel and Hannah Westre; Madisen and Mitchel Fischer ;Zachary and Abigail Landhuis and Jaivyn Logan and Kora Landhuis; a great granddaughter, Keegan, her brothers and sisters; Terry (Janice) Latterell of Rice, Minnesota; Bruce (Deb) Latterell of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Mary (Rick) Boots of Johnston, Iowa; Daniel Latterell of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Thomas (Leesa) Latterell of Sibley, Iowa a sister-in-law law Barbara Latterell of St. Cloud, Minnesota also many nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

       She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith, parents Gerald and Lillian and a infant sister.
