Kurt Tatsumi, 62, of Sheldon, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna, Alaska. His funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Faith Community Church in Sheldon.

Visitation will take place after the funeral service in the fellowship hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be designated to missionary for youth.

KURTIS C. TATSUMI

Kurt Tatsumi, beloved Husband, Dad, Papa, and Brother passed away on Thursday August 6, 2026, in Alaska, his home away from home. Kurt, 62, was born on September 8, 1963, the son of Harold and Darlene Tatsumi (Krier) in Sheldon, IA. He graduated from high school in Jackson, MN in 1982. Kurt attended North Central Bible College for a year and then moved to Moorhead, MN to attend Moorhead State University. On June 8, 1985, Kurt married his high school sweetheart, Rebecca Joul in Jackson, MN.

Kurt served on the Sheldon City Council as well as Mayor. He participated in Kiwanis, church leadership teams and in the community. Kurt worked at Scheels and a furniture store while he attended college. He and his brother Klint have worked together alongside family over the years building the family business to what it is today.

Kurt remodeled his first house when he was 16. He loved fishing, hunting, working on projects, cars, and making maple syrup with family and friends.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren. He was always finding something to fix, build or create. His creativity, determination, and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impression on those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, children, Krista (Paul) and Kristopher (Tiffanie); grandchildren Brett, Hayden, and Charlie; brother Kim, sister Kathlene (Harlyn), brother Klinton (Raeanne).

He was preceded in death by his parents Harold & Darlene; his in-laws, Burt & Jan; and his brother in-law, Kevin.

Kurt leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories in the hearts of his family and dear friends who will carry forward his generosity and compassion that he so effortlessly gave.
