Loraine May (Steuck) McCauley, the daughter of William and Dora (Petersen) Steuck was born May 22, 1927 on a farm outside Primghar. Loraine graduated from Primghar High School in 1944. Loraine began working as a legal secretary for Schultz Attorney at Law before meeting Robert E. McCauley. The two were united in marriage August 1, 1948 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Sanborn. The couple made their home in Primghar all their married life. Loraine and Bob welcomed three children, Mary Jo, Robert William and Peggy Jean. When the children grew a little older, Loriane took a job at the Primghar Savings Bank. This job started as a part time job, which soon became a full time job until Loraine retired. Loraine never saw this job as work because she enjoyed seeing her customers on a regular basis.
Loraine was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Primghar and served on many committees, the women’s circle and as the church treasurer. Loraine served on the Primghar Centennial Steering Committee in 1989. She also served on many committees for the advancement of growth in the community of Primghar. Loraine had many friends of all ages and loved nothing more than to sit and chat with a cup of coffee. Loraine was an avid gardener and was known for working in her garden and mowing her lawn until she was close to 97 years old. Loraine was well known for her yellow smiley face stickers. To her they were a symbol of love and a big hug.
Loraine leaves to cherish her memory to two children; Mary and her husband Dick Garrod of Omaha, NE; and Bob McCauley of Primghar. Son-in-law Dan Uthe of Sioux Falls S.D; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren: Mandy Garrod; Sarah and her husband Nick Zitterich (Gracyn and Maddyn), Megan and her husband Josh Reiling (Crew and Camryn); Robert A. McCauley, Carly and her husband Joe Leither, and Ky Uthe; as well as other relatives and friends.
Loraine was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her siblings Arnie, Fred, Norma, Ruth and Irene and her daughter Peggy Jean as well as many other loved relatives and friends.
