Lynn Marie Schimmer, was born on November 24, 1962, in Cherokee, Iowa, to Duane and Marilyn Schimmer. She grew up on the family farm near Sutherland and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1982.
Lynn moved to Sheldon, Iowa and was a resident at Village Northwest for a time. She then moved into an apartment of her own in a complex she often jokingly referred to as “the zoo”. She worked for several years at Data Dimensions and then for Sanford Home Health.
Lynn battled health issues for many years and in 1998, she underwent a kidney transplant at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. From that time on she continued to have health issues, many from the side effects of the many anti-rejection medications she was required to take.
Lynn enjoyed spending time in the summer at Lake Okoboji at her parent’s cabin. She loved to swim and was a fish in the water. She visited her parents several winters in Mesa, Arizona for a month. Lynn was a volunteer in Sheldon at the Treasure Chest secondhand shop. She befriended many of the other volunteers there. She loved to show off all her clothing finds. She had enough “bargains” for 4 women.
Lynn enjoyed Bible Study with a special group of friends each week and they would go for breakfast and coffee. She loved playing Scrabble with her mom and kidded her about cheating by making up words and loved playing cards. She delighted in “ratting” family members out, especially if they had said or done something silly, they didn’t want anyone to know about. Lynn had an infectious laugh that would turn into a cackle when she was really tickled about something. Lynn always greeted us with a “Hello there” and ended her phone conversations with a “Buh-bye”. She was the toughest person we knew and faced her health issues with courage. She never complained and maintained her sense of humor.
She is survived by her father, Duane Schimmer; sisters, Terri (Steve) Carnahan, Peggy Schimmer, Susan (Jamie) Christofferson; nephews, Chris Carnahan who shared a birthday with Lynn and Andrew Christofferson and niece, Robin (Brad) Lambertus. Many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Special life-long friend, Nancy Plagman and Betty Schott.
Lynn was preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn.
