Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Pastor Paul Van Maaren, officiating.

Marie D. Van Veldhuizen, age 100, of Sheldon, Iowa passed on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. Her memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Pastor Paul Van Maaren, officiating.

 Her graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. 

 Visitation with family present will be from 5 to 7 P.M. on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

 Marie Dena Van Veldhuizen, the daughter of Cornelius and Dena (Buysman) Lode, was born on December 18, 1924, in Archer, Iowa. She entered eternal rest on her 100th birthday, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. She received her education at a country school. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Van Veldhuizen on February 14, 1949, at First Reformed Church in Sheldon. The couple made their home in Sheldon, where Marie worked for Sears in Sheldon for 17 years, retiring in 1983. They moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 2002. Gil passed away on November 5, 2008. Marie remained at the Christian Retirement Home until moving with Kellye’s family in June of 2023 until November of 2023, when she moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living until her passing.

 Marie was a longtime member of First Reformed Church in Sheldon, being actively involved in teaching Sunday school, Bible school, and catechism. She was also a member of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary. Marie enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards, traveling, and also wintering in Florida for 23 years and Texas for 9, and made two trips to Europe. She enjoyed time with her family.

 Marie is survived by her son, Ron and his wife, Roxanne Van Veldhuizen of LaPointe, Wisconsin; daughter, Nancy and her husband Claude Struve of Shelon; grandchildren Nick (Rachel) Van Veldhuizen of El Cerrito, California and their children, Finnley, Devlin, and Saoirse, Nathan (Tay) Van Veldhuizen of Bellevue, Washington, Tim Davis of Polk City, Kellye (Justin) Kleinhesselink of Sheldon and their children, Harper, Beckham, and Willow, Kyle (Molly) Struve of Estherville and their children, Jackson, Wyatt, and Noelle, Kayla (TJ) Miller of Sheldon and their children, Camden, Maverick and Briar; also many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

 Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Gil, siblings, Werner (Buelah) (Ally) Lode, John (Mina) Lode, Henry (Lena) (Wilma) Lode, Herman (Jennie) Lode, Gerrit (Rose) Lode, Carl Lode, Cornelia (John) Oldenkamp and brothers and sisters-in-law, Cornelia (Jake) Van Leeuwen, Bertha (Darrell) Roetman, Cornelius Van Veldhuizen, Ed (Helen) Van Veldhuizen, Dick and (Arlene) Lode, and Nellie (Don) Den Hartog.
