Marilyn A. Andringa

Marilyn Ann Sundberg was born on November 28, 1950, in Clarinda, Iowa. She was the daughter of Virgil and Delma (Mainquist) Sundberg. She grew up on a farm southwest of Stanton, and attended Stanton High School. She was named Santa Lucia queen her senior year, at the town’s traditional Swedish Festival of Lights.

She attended Iowa State University, graduating in 1972 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Fred Andringa on June 28, 1975, at Immanuel CRC in Sheldon. They made their home in Sheldon.

She had multiple stops throughout her career as a teacher, spending time in Stanton, Mason City, Sanborn, and lastly at Sheldon Christian School.

When not teaching, she stayed active with several family-owned ventures, local businesses, and volunteer opportunities.

Marilyn’s love of music came early, playing clarinet, saxophone, and flute throughout high school as well as participating in the church choir and as pianist and organist. That affinity continued for the rest of her life, with all types of music prevalent in the home, including a piano and organ.

Her love for her alma mater never faded, as she enjoyed attending both athletic and non-athletic events on campus in Ames. She proudly wore her cardinal and gold and could often be found around Sheldon distributing ISU athletics schedule posters to other Cyclone fans.

Marilyn was a member of Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.

She passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

She is survived by: her son, Christopher Andringa of Ames, Iowa; sister, Virginia Eisele of Chicago, Illinois; brother, Richard Sundberg, of Stanton, Iowa; many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
