            Services for Marion J. Sterk, age 92, of Sheldon who passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.  His funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon with Pastor Paul Van Maaren ~ officiating.

            Burial will be held at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

            Visitation with family present will be from 10:30 A.M. until time of service on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the funeral home.

              Marion John Sterk, son of Marinus and Marie (Buysman) Sterk, was born in Sheldon, Iowa, February 9, 1931.  He was raised with seven siblings on a farm near Sheldon and attended a rural school. 

            On June 14, 1950, Marion was married to Nelvina Boone at the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church.  The couple made their home in Sanborn for a short time.  They then farmed for a number of years near Edgerton, Minnesota and Hartley, Iowa.  In 1964, they moved to Sheldon where Marion worked for Land O Lakes Feed Plant for many years, retiring in 1993.  He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon.

            Marion and Nelvina enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling during their retirement years.  In June of 2017, they became residents of Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon where he remained until 2023 when he moved into Sanford Senior Care.

            Survivors include three children; son, Terry and his wife Brenda Sterk of Manning, Iowa; daughter, Nadine and her husband Gary De Hoogh of Sheldon, Iowa; daughter, Sharon and her husband Tim Hejlik of Garner, Iowa; son-in-law, Kerwin and his wife Kathy Sterler of Sheldon; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren; one sister, Corleen Elgersma and other relatives and friends.

            Marion was preceded in death by his wife, Nelvina of sixty-nine years; a daughter, Donna Sterler; an infant great-granddaughter, Vanessa Lief; four brothers, Cornelius, Lambert, William, Harold; two sisters, Henrietta Brinks and Ann Vander Maten.
