Marjorie Ellen (Kreykes) Dykstra, age 87, of Sibley (formerly of Akron and Sheldon) passed away on Saturday, March 2, at Sibley Specialty Care.

Margie was born on July 4, 1936, in the Lutheran Hospital in Sheldon, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Fred and Marge (Roetman) Kreykes.  She lived on a farm north of Sheldon and at the age of 9 she and her family moved to town when her brothers returned home from the armed services.  She attended Sheldon Christian grade school and Western Christian High School.  After her father passed away in 1953, she and her mother moved to Bellflower, California where she attended the Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing attaining the degree of Registered Nurse.   She moved back to Sheldon with her mother and worked at the Sheldon Hospital and also graduated from Westmar College with a degree in psychology.  She married Jerold James Dykstra on August 17, 1959.  They lived in Akron, Iowa where she was the Director of Nursing along with her husband who was the Administrator of the Akron Hospital, and which later became a nursing home.  In 1985, she became a disaster worker for the American Red Cross, retiring in 2005.  She responded to over 75 national assignments working as a disaster nurse.  She was proud of her work helping many people put their lives back together after losing everything in a disaster.

Margie was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron for 35 years and later a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.  She was a member of the GFWCIA Friendship and Service Club for over 50 years.

In 2014 she moved to the Christian Retirement Home with her husband.  Jerold passed away in 2016.  Margie moved to Fieldcrest and after suffering a stroke in 2022, she moved to Sibley Specialty Care.

Left to survive her is her sister-in-law, Lois Kreykes of Sheldon and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents and Jerold’s parents, Bert and Winnie (Grassmid) Dykstra.  She was also preceded in death by her four brothers, John and his wife Della, Gerald, Elmer and his wife June and Frank and his wife Annabel.
