Funeral services for Marjorie “Marj” Hunt, age 92, of Sanborn, formerly of Primghar who passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at the United Church of Primghar with Pastor Mike Cooper, officiating.

Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar.

Marjorie L. Hunt was born February 22, 1933, the youngest child of Clara (Koch) and Hugo Wittrock. She was born on the family farm southwest of Primghar. She attended country school located on their farm through the 6th grade. When entering 7th grade, she rode the first bus purchased by the school district in Primghar. She graduated in the Class of 1951.
On June 13, 1954, she married Leon Hunt at the Congregational Church in Primghar. They moved to Iowa City while Leon completed his pharmacy degree at the University of Iowa and during this time Marge worked at the University Hospitals for one year. Following his graduation, they moved back to Primghar and Leon worked with his father in the drug store.
To this union two children were born, Jan and James.
Marge worked with her husband when they owned the mom and pop Hunt Pharmacy for 17 years. Following the sale of the pharmacy she was employed for 4 years as the principal’s secretary at the Primghar school.
She was a member of the United Church of Primghar and served on various commissions. She was a seamstress and quilter. She served 4 years on the board at the Primghar Country Club. She was a scrapbooker for 30 years and she kept scrapbooks for Baum Harmon Hospital and Primghar Golf and Country Club. She was a 50-year member of the Hospital Auxiliary. Years ago, she enjoyed having coffee with her friends every morning at “Shortee’s Pit Stop”. She was also a card player. Her and her husband enjoyed many trips, the Bahamas, Hawaii and a 5-day trip on the Mississippi River on the Delta Queen. Following her husband’s retirement, they went on many bus trips around the states.
Marge is survived by her husband Leon and children Jan (Darwin) Gaudian and Jim Hunt; 2 granddaughters Darcy (Brian) Fritz and Danielle Kruse; six great-grandchildren Madison, Adalynn and Brynlee Fritz; Ali, Nate and Ryan Kruse, sister-in-law Ruth Wittrock also many nieces and nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by grandson-in-law Javan Kruse, parents, all her siblings Wilma, Helen, Arlene, Donald, Ervin, Vernon and Walter, three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law and her in-laws Dan and Jean Struve.
