Services for Mark A. Vander Ploeg, age 67, of Primghar who passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his residence. His memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Boy Scout Island at Mill Creek State Park in Paullina.
For everyone attending the memorial service at the lake, please bring a lawn chair for seating during the service.
Private family graveside will be at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 P.M. on Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar.

MARK A. VANDER PLOEG
Mark Alan Vander Ploeg, the son of Henry and Gertie (Vanden Brink) Vander Ploeg was born on October 16, 1957, in Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education and graduated from Paullina High School in 1976. After graduating, he continued his education at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He married Debra (Vander Aarde) Scott and to this union four children were born, Stronz, Keaton, Caleb and Drew. Mark worked for IBM as a software engineer and later became a hotel owner and operator in Primghar. Mark passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his residence reaching the age of 67 years, 9 months, and 24 days.
Mark was a world traveler, a farmer, known for being unconventional and generous. He loved to travel the world; he did mission work in Ukraine teaching English and sponsored them during the war. He enjoyed concerts, long conversations and debating and spending time at Mill Creek State Park in Paullina.
Left to cherish his memory are his four sons, Stronz (Kate) Vander Ploeg of Phoenix, Arizona, Keaton Vander Ploeg of Flagstaff, Arizona, Caleb (Vanessa) Vander Ploeg of Chicago, Illinois, and Drew Vander Ploeg of Rigby, Idaho; three grandchildren, Anderson, Clark and Avery Vander Ploeg; siblings and their spouses, Dianne and Jerry Hallstrom, David and Peggy Vander Ploeg, Timothy and Sherry Vander Ploeg, Jonathan and Pam Vander Ploeg and Daniel and Lynne Vander Ploeg. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
