            Services for Marla Johnson, age 82, of Hartley, who passed away at her residence on Thursday, February 29, 2024.  Her funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar with Pastor Cory Grimm, officiating.

            Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar.

            Visitation with family present will be from 9 to 10 A.M. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar.

After today’s graveside service, relatives and friends are invited to join the family at Christ Community Church in Primghar for a time of fellowship.

Marla Johnson, the daughter of Martin and Gertrude (Scholten) Van Der Sloot, was born on August 12, 1941, in Hull, Iowa.  She graduated from Primghar High School.  She was married to Jerry LeRoy Johnson and to this union four children were born, Laurie, Debra, Jeff, and Daniel.  She worked at Fairmont Foods for many years, before moving back to Hartley.  While living in Hartley she worked for Cutty’s Resort and later she worked at Community Memorial Health Center where she retired in 2006.  Marla passed away at her home on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at the age of 82 years, 6 months, and 17 days.

     Marla was a member of Christ Community Church in Primghar.  She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes.  The other things she enjoyed watching was Heartland, Hallmark, Lifetime, and Soap Operas.  Most of all she enjoyed being with her family.

     Left to cherish her memory are her children, Laurie (James) Andringa of Fairmont, Minnesota, Debra Johnson of Hartley, Jeff (Cathy) Johnson of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Daniel (fiancé, Stasey Potts) of Suffolk, Virginia; grandchildren, Jamie, Philip, Adam Andringa, Kristy, Josh, and Kyle Snyder, Craig and Brad Johnson, Jeremiah Jones, and Kayla Vos; twenty-three great grandchildren; siblings, Harold (Sheila) Van Der Sloot, of Sibley, Gerrit (Sally) Van Der Sloot, of Primghar, Janice Van Der Sloot of Primghar, Harlan (Wendy) Van Der Sloot of Flagler Beach, Florida, Gerda (Roger) Grothaus of Primghar; sister-in-law, Betty Van Der Sloot of Sheldon; also many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

     Marla was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Van Der Sloot.
