MARY JO BLOCK 
      Mary Josephine Block, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Jellesma) Honkomp, was born August 24, 1943 in Ashton, IA. She graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Ashton in 1961. Mary Jo worked for the telephone company in Sheldon for nine months. She was united in marriage to Gerald Block on February 23, 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed in the Ritter area until their retirement in 1994. They moved into Sheldon in 1999. Mary Jo passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, reaching the age of 64 years, 10 months and 15 days. 
     She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of Sheldon the Ladies Guild and Catholic Daughters of America; she was a past member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ashton. Mary Jo enjoyed reading, collecting blue bottles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. 
     Mary Jo leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 45 years, Gerald; and their children, Edward and his wife, Ann Block of Wasilla, AK; Brenda and her husband, Terry Gloden of Hospers, IA; Daniel and his wife, Chris Block of Spirit Lake, IA; Steven and his wife, Sheri Block of Wichita, KS; Chad Block of Big Lake, MN and Traci and her husband, Darrin Statema of Jackson, NE; fifteen grandchildren, her mother, Grace Honkomp of Sheldon, IA; eight brothers and sisters and their spouses, Robert and Charlotte Honkomp of Kingsley, IA; Richard and Judy Honkomp of Sheldon, IA; Jerry and Linda Honkomp of Ashton, IA; David and Carol Honkomp of Paullina, IA; Bill and Connie Honkomp of Ashton, IA; Tom and Char Honkomp of Brookings, SD; Jan and Steve Kruger of Phoenix, AZ; and Nancy and Alan Wassenaar of Doon, IA; and other relatives and friends. 
     She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Daniel Honkomp.
