Mary L. Kearney, 90, of Sergeant Bluff, formerly of Sioux City, and Primghar, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Unity Point Health in Sioux City. Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 20, 2026, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Primghar with Father Thomas Kollasch, officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Primghar.

Visitation with family present will be from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Paullina.

MARY L. KEARNEY

Mary Louise (Scholten) Kearney was born January 24, 1936, the daughter of John and Aleida (Lens) at Alvord, Iowa and grew up as one of seventeen children on a farm southeast of Larchwood, Iowa. She attended St. Mary School and graduated in 1954. Following graduation she worked in Sioux Falls; It was at the Arkota Ballroom where she met Charles Kearney who had just returned from the Korean Conflict. They were married on February 14, 1956. They lived in Primghar where Mary worked as the deputy clerk at Primghar City Hall for many years. Mary passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the age of 90.

Mary was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and while in Sioux City she was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed many sports including Iowa Hawkeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She was a kind person and always had a sense of humor.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her children, Michael of Eldon, Missouri, Susan (Mike) Willer of Lawton, Iowa, Sharon Bates of Paullina, Iowa, Don (fiancé DeDe Sullivan) Kearney of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Thomas (Jill) Kearney of Dakota Dunes, South Dakota and Sheila Sehnert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren to of which called her Grandma K. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Carman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; also other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John and Aleida Scholten, husband, Charles Kearney, son, Ryan; fifteen brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Lance Bates and brother-in-law, Dale Carman.
