Michael “Mike” Leckband, August 10, 1972- July 10, 2023.

Mike was an all around great guy to know. He was an incredible son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. While we are all shocked at his sudden passing, we are all also blessed with many great memories to cherish from his time with us.

Mike grew up in Arnold’s park Iowa with his mother and two siblings. He worked at Arnold’s Park amusement park through Highschool. As the baby of the family he became an uncle at the young age of 13 and was overjoyed about it from that day on. His family was everything to him and he took his uncle duties very seriously and loved his nieces and nephews like his own.

Mike was a lover of art in many forms and was very talented at drawing and an amazing photographer. His eye for the small details was a true gift. Mike always had a way of looking at the brighter side and seeing the beauty in the world that the rest of us over look daily. Because of this he could always put a smile on someone’s face and make their day a little brighter without even trying. He was truly a light to all that knew him.

As an adult Mike purchased an acreage in Calumet Iowa and lived the rest of his life there and pursued his dream of being a photographer. He worked for the Cherokee Chronicle Times for many years taking pictures. Most recently he was a free lance photographer and worked for Builders Sharpening in Cherokee where we’re sure his absence will also be felt by his coworkers and friends.

On July 10, 2023 Mike was found in his home and had sadly passed from natural causes. He was preceded in death by his Mother Joyce Leckband, his Grandparents, and many aunts and uncles. He is Survived by his brother Scott (Becky) Leckband of Milford, IA, his Sister Cindy Leckband of Spencer, IA, his nieces and nephew Jodi Johnson of St. Paul, MN, Jen Kreisel of Aurelia, IA, Matt Leckband of Cherokee, IA, and Jamie Leckband of Spirit Lake, IA. He was also blessed with 5 great nieces and nephews Andrew, Abby, Colin, Paige, & Nolan.

Celebration of life will be at Martins Access in Larabee, IA August 10-12. The family will be honoring him with a 2 night camp out for his birthday, all are welcome to come share their favorite stories with the family while we truly celebrate his life.
