Mollie Marie Parry, the daughter of Edmund and Gertrude (Briggs) Schwartz was born on August 17, 1932, near Platte, South Dakota. Following the death of her father, she and her mother moved to Primghar, Iowa. Mollie graduated from Primghar High School in 1950 and continued her education at Morningside College earning her teaching degree. On December 6, 1951, Mollie was united in marriage to Don Parry. After Don completed his service in the Air Force, the two moved near Ritter, farming for the next 46 years. Mollie taught elementary school in Ashton before their family was started and later worked as an aide at Sheldon Middle School until her retirement. Mollie passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care at the age of 93 years and 29 days.
Mollie was a member of Faith Community Church in Sheldon. She loved her family dearly. She was very proud of her children and grandchildren. While living on the farm, Mollie found great joy working in her large flower and vegetable gardens. She especially loved having her grandchildren help her. Mollie was known as the “coolest grandma” for teaching the grandkids how to make flower crowns, holly hock dolls, and letting them drive while taking lunches to the fields. Mollie also enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to sew and knit, trying her best to pass down her skills and patience. She was always happy to share sweet corn and vegetables with family and friends. Mollie will always be remembered for her passion for fishing and playing cards. She looked forward to her weekly Bridge games.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their spouses, Jeff and Carol of Sheldon and Scott and Denise of LeMars, Iowa; son-in-law, Loren (Sharla) Dykshorn of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, Ben, Ross, Autumn, Rachel and Emma; eight great grandchildren; Gates, Jace, Brees, Logan, Makenna, Tony, Penny, and Josie as well as many nieces, nephews and a multitude of friends.
Mollie was preceded in death by her husband Don, daughter Lynn Dyshorn, parents, Edmund and Gertrude, siblings, Briggs Schwartz, Harriet Gillespie, and William Schwartz.
