Phyllis Margaret DeBoom, daughter of John A.G. Sohn and Minnie E.R. (Menke) Sohn was born January 5, 1928, near Granville, Iowa in O’Brien County. She received her education at a country school and later graduated from Archer Consolidated High School in 1946.
On August 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Darrell DeBoom in Sanborn, Iowa. She supported her husband in all his working life, maintaining a home and raising two sons. Phyllis made sure their house was welcoming, as well as a warm, safe place for family to come home to.
For decades, friends and family were often the thankful recipients of home baked goods from her kitchen. Her caring and compassionate nature and friendly smile had a way of drawing people in.
Phyllis was a member of the United Church of Primghar. She will always be remembered by those who knew her for her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Phyllis enjoyed making craft items, particularly needlepoint and cross-stitch and visiting with friends. She enjoyed the many trips taken with Darrell before his passing in 2014.
Left to cherish her memory are her two sons and their spouses, Jerry, and Carol DeBoom of Des Moines, Iowa and Denny and Terry DeBoom of Granbury, Texas; four grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Lee and Ross DeBoom; five great grandchildren, Benjamin, Madison, Jonas, Holland and Sebastian DeBoom; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grand nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell, her parents and two brothers, Wallace and Shirley Sohn and Ronald and Shirley Sohn; sister-in-law, Maurine Miller, Marilyn Miller; brothers-in-law, John Zevenbergen and Gerald Wegter; nephews, Bob DeBoom and Marv Wegter.
Throughout her life, Phyllis’ immediate and extended family have always remained very important to her, as she was to all of them.
