RHELMA J. EVANS
Rhelma Jean Evans, the daughter of Verl and Gladys (Saxby) Martin was born October 24, 1923 in Anacortes, Washington where she spent her youth and attended school. Rhelma moved to Sheldon and worked at the Rexall Drug for several years. On January 21, 1942, she was united in marriage to Clarence E. Evans in the Parsonage of the Church of the Brethren in Worthington, Minnesota. To this union, 4 children were born. After the couple were married they farmed in the Sheldon area until their retirement in 1986. The couple remained in their home until moving to the Prairie View Suites in Sanborn, Iowa. Clarence preceded her in death on June 18, 2011. Rhelma passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn, reaching the age of 94 years, 2 months and 28 days.
She was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Rebekah Lodge, the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliaries, the Eagles Club and Royal Neighbors. She enjoyed being a farm wife and taking care of her family. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Rhelma leaves to cherish her memories her children and their spouses, George (Liz) Evans of Burnsville, Minnesota; Toni (Denny) Clemens of Omaha, Nebraska; Emily (Larry) Peterson of Luverne, Minnesota; Julie (Dan) Fisher of Wellman, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents and 2 sisters.
